Final trip to the Court!
Our last trip to the Court will be this Wednesday, May 20, and we will be entertaining residents with songs and fun. If any of you want to join us, please come. We will be leaving around 9:30 and will return around 11:15. You would be amazed to see some of the skills our students developed connecting to the residents.
I am asking students to respond to this post online after the trip and give their impressions of the whole experience. Look for some responses by Friday.

Dear,mrs. Ludden
I had a really good time doing the projet and singing for the cort.My faveorite part was haveing skits and songs !!! I also had a good time with the history projet!!!
My experience was fun! I met a lot of new people and friends. I learned a lot about World War II. Everyone there in the audience has a smile on their face as well as everyone singing! I hope and wish to go visit them in the summer!!! After I met some people I came to this one lady and she said she was OLD and was 92!I think she is lucky to still be in this world.
I liked the trips. They were really fun, and I liked getting to sing and meet people and dance and interview the citizens! My absolute favorite was the Valentine one, because we got to meet the people and perform for them, and I like to perform. We sang for them too, and I also like to sing.
Thanks for organizing them, Mrs. Ludden!!
This series of field trips was a blast! We got to sing, do skits, and get crucial information from the people that actually lived during that time. I loved talking to all the people that could tell us what it was like living in a time that we could never imagine. It was very fun to perform in front of such intelligent and faithful people. I liked these trips mostly, because of the stories that they could tell us about they’re child or adulthood during this time. These people may be older, but they are just like you and me. They can do whatever we can, and they can tell us stories of themselves without shame. They maybe retired, but they still have a little kid in themselves waiting to tell a detailed story of what they have lived through. They are awesome!
Nick
I had the most fun singing the Fifty Nifty Song, I did here some kids talk, but mostly the retired people were laughing there heads off.It was a fun experience, and to share the fun at the retirement place was awfully nice.
Signed, Marshall
the trips were awsome I met some cool people I met a man named Ed that faught during wwII
When I first went to the Court I didn’t know what to expect I wasn’t exactly comfortable because I didn’t know anyone. Since I was sick during the second trip I didn’t get to interview. After the third trip I got used to the elders. I enjoyed talking to the retired and Captain Joe Knapp was really nice and brought a scrapbook. On the last trip we had to sing which I don’t really like doing but when the retired started thanking us I liked that.
I had a great time over at the nursing home. I got to see this really cool scrap book that Joe knapp made, it was so cool. It was cool when we got to interview Joe, Julie. i met all kinds of nice people, and showed them my poster board and we had snacks it was just all so awesome. My favorite part of the trip was the skit, and the singing both very fun.
What I liked about the trips to the Court nursing home was the refreshments, the World War 2 project, Joe Knapp’s scrapbook and the pool table. I want to go back and play pool at the Court nursing home.
From the start to the finish, it was enjoyable. I liked the people that I worked with and enjoyed the activities. Such as singing, interviewing, and presenting to the elderly. But to tell the truth we had some difficulties in some issues. Which some were resolved with effort, like on singing and interviewing skills. But I’m not sure we have gotten to the point were we have stopped talking and not as noisy. I want to list the good and bad experiences since I know for sure that most letters you read only contain good things. But in all and all I enjoyed the 4 trips and would go again.
Dear Mrs.ludden
Well I loved going to the retirement home and visting residents and also interviewing, and getting to make a board on the subject we studied. The visit that I liked the most was the first because I meet Ms.Augustine was so nice and funny. But the third and forth time she wasn’t there so that was disappointing. This summer I would like to go back and visit some more.
Sincerely,
kara
Dear Mrs.Luden,
I loved the trip it was awesome. The experience was amazing it was so much fun going and spend time with the e lderly. they made me feal so happy when they smild. i am so glad the people who gave us the money to go on the fun trips that we tacke. i am so sad this was are last trip but i lernd a lot of things frome the trip. I am so happy that we have the privilege to do the things that we do
It’s hard to make conversation with someone who is from a whole different generation. It’s even harder to get past obvious age difference. It startles me when ever we can understand each other, especially on a topic that seems more now than when they were young. Even more startling was when I had to look at Joe’s entire scrapbook 3 times over.
The singing was fun, but the rest was a bore. Interviewing them was fun, but actually talking to them scares me. They are very nice, but I have trouble accepting nice.
I thought this whole experience was awesome. There are many things that were fun, and cool, such as the people we interviewed. The first person we interviewed was very nice and funny. I felt very comfortable around her. I also learned a lot of cool information about WWII, and what life was like during this time in history.
The third time we went to the Court, we brought the poster with all the information we researched. I felt extremely proud of myself and my team, because the other students and seniors thought ours was one of the best. If I could go back again, I definatly would.
Dear Mrs. Ludden
I loved going to the nursing home, and see all everybody’s face just light up. I think that singing to them was fun, and I hope in middle school we’ll do it again. I thought that doing thee WWII project was really cool, and I learned A LOT from the interview. There were a lot of retired people, and I think it was hard to keep track who was who. Thankyou and I really enjoyed all the trips.
Sincerely,
Joshua
Dear Mrs Ludden,
I realy had a lot of fun at the nursing home the song that I really was
shark song,
and the 50 nifty song. I had a lot of fun
=D
Dear Mrs. Ludden,
I had a great time at the Court. The people there were very nice and kind. It was fun making the poster and we worked very hard on it. I was a little dissapointed when the people we interviewed did’nt show up at the last visit, but thats O.K. Our bus driver was nice and fast. I liked the songs we sang and the skits we did.
From,
Grant,
Mrs. Ludden,
I liked the field trips very much. My favorite part was when we got to play skits and poems for the people who stayed the court. Hopefully they liked it because we worked very hard to do all of this. During this feild trip, I enjoyed watching the people laugh at the actors who were playing in baby shark.(I enjoyed it as well!)
I felt good when the people at the retirement home were looking at our poster from World War II. Thank you very much for the field trips.
P.S.The refreshments were very tasty!
I thought the trips were cool. It was quite fun talking to residents. The singing, skits, and poems were pretty cool. Thanks for letting us sing “This Land is Your Land”. It was a… different experience. We did a lot in those visits; the “older” residents were very nice. They thanked us, and we thanked them. They were awesome listeners. I think it was also exciting visiting. I met some new people in the Nursing Home. If I could go back; I would. It was pretty cool that at the end of our visits we got to socialize. Thanks for taking us all those times! I learned new things about World War II, and Joe also had a pretty cool scrap book. It was him, & he was in the Wal Mart magazine. It’s hard to believe how long Wal Mart’s been around. I never thought visiting the older people would be fun.
Sincerely,
Brooke
Hi everybody,
this is Lyric and I just wanted to say that I thought the world war II project that we did was realy fun. My favorite part of the whole project would probably be the part where we went to have our little reception with the elderlys at the Court. I also liked the part where we got to make our display boards for everybody to see. When we went to the retirement center, every time I saw a couple that we met on our interview. They remembered me and everyone else that met them which was surprising to me because I know that most of them don’t have a very good memory. The couple that we met went by the names of Ed and Ann Schneider. They saw me today and said “oh hi suga’ ” which was very touching to me. I basically liked the whole project but some parts I liked more than others. Even though that place was not like your everyday house (well at least not ours) it was still very homey to them. My mom and I are planning to come back soon and visit. I think they will be very happy to see us there. At the first trip we took, I didn’t think it was going to be as exciting as it turned out to be because I had never been to a Retirement Center. Our display boards turned out looking realy well but no one from our group wanted to take it home. I guess that’s just because it would probably be too much in the way.Anyways to tell you what I just wrote if you didn’t understand, I basically just had a great time!Bye
~Lyric
The nursing home was an awsome & funny experience
especially the baby shark the God Bless America was fun too

How many Retirement field trips have we had again??
Dear Mrs.Ludden,
I had a fantastic time at the trips and met many new people that I talked with. The time when I did the World War II project I was really excited because I thought it was a great success.I was really happy we went to the Court.
Thanks Mrs.Ludden!
Sincerely,
Lisa
I had a lot of fun because we would get to interview people and then we would have to put it on our board and we got to do our skits, and we got to work with our friends. It felt like it was a news studio having to write all that stuff, and then l we had that display case for all the projects. It was so FUN!!! and the people thought that our presentations were funny and good.
Sincerely,
Alonso
Dear Mrs.Ludden,
I had a good time at the nursing home, because I had fun every single time I went there. But my favorite part was making World War II project so that the elders could look at it. I wish I go there again.
I really enjoyed all of these very fun field trips! I loved the interviewing the residents and being able to share all of the fantastic project with them . The people there were very nice. The last visit, the residents seemed to enjoy all of the songs and we really enjoyed getting to sing to them. Thank you for letting us go
on the field trips and having so much pationts with us.
love,
Jennifer
Dear Mrs. Ludden
What I thought about the World War II is that it was great but what I didn’t like was some of the songs like we are the Gattis Gators for some reason a never understud the song and the skits was really nice. The skit that a liket is the no skit one it was verey, verey funey the cookeis were great and the drinks were verey taste but what I say about valentaimes was not so great for me oh and you have a great voice.
Dear Mrs.Ludden,
I loved the whole entire trip!I enjoyed singing for the elders.I thought of our singing to the elders as a thank you gift.I just loved every song we sang and every sound effect we made.I enjoyed every trip we went on.
This was a awesome time at the court. The world war II projects were fun, but it was hard. I want to thank Mrs.Ludden for letting us go to the court and Mrs. Lucas and for the people that came and let us talk to them and let us interview them.
Dear Mrs. Ludden
Ever sense the beginning its been a great experience I never thought I would make it this far. I’m sad that it has ended. I want to thank Mrs. Ludden for setting this whole thing up. The elderly were very nice and inviting. Im so thankful that they took the time out of there day to come and see use. I really wish could go back and see them again. Lester Housinger (the guy we interviewed) was so helpful to my group and I. he gave us so much information. I thank everybody who helped put this together.
Gwynn
I thout the nursing home was a great thing for us because learning about WW II was cool and exciting and our WWII projects were even better because we spent more time at the nursing home. And presenting was cool even though we had not that many people show to our stand. But after today’s visit was even better because we sang songs and did skits my favorite song was God Bless America. Because my favorite continent is America because we survived through a lot the worst was the great depression so God bless America.
Dear Mrs. Ludden
I thought the trips were great. I got to meet a bunch of war heros and I thought the experince was sweet. I mean how often do you get to skip school to go to a nursing home.
Thanks Alex
My favorite part of all the trips are the song baby shark and my groups bubble gum skit.It was fun when we got to interview the people that live at the nursing home about are WWII projects. It was awesome that the elderly people thought my groups project was awesome and that we put all of our hard work into the projects.I have to say that the first trip about the skits was the best. Our last trip went well but we have our difficulties.:):):):)
RIGHTEOUSNESS
My time at the nursing home was AWESOME! I had the best time singing the songs because sometimes you could add in your own little dance moves to have fun. My favorite songs were the Australian Going to Yodeling, and Baby Shark. Not trying to brag but I think Jacob, Lyric, Hailey and I did the best. Any ways my experience was fun, until I had to go. That STUNK!
Dear Mrs. Ludden,
thanks for the field trips to the court .I enjoyed talking to the elders. We got to be very interested and inspired by their stories.Well, those stories were unimaginable because the elders lived in a completely different time period. I guess it’s true that the elders lived in WW2, a time when people had to risk their lives to survive. That was my favorite field trip.
Thanks again,
Sophia
I really enjoyed going to the nursing home because we got to interview people from World War II and talk about their experiences from World War II. I also liked singing and doing the skit and performing for the elderly people. I think they also enjoyed the Baby Shark song the most.
I really enjoyed going to the nursing home. I liked doing the skits, singing, interviewing, and just visiting with the elderly. I learned a lot about Victory Gardens. I thought nobody actually planted a victory garden in Texas, but there were people that did. I felt more confident about talking to other people that I didn’t really know.
I think all of your students are very lucky to have been given the opportunity to have this learning experience. Our senior citizens have so much knowledge and experience to share with our young students. You are brilliant for having the insight to see the value of this experience.
Thank you for sharing your passion for teaching with our kids. You are AWESOME!
The nursing home was fun. I got to interview many people. I got to interview a man. I liked singing in front of the elders. The skits were fun, and they thought they were funny. They thought the Baby Shark song was the funniest. Out of the four visits, I liked this one the most.
I loved the whole thing, but my favorite part was working on the project the most because I loved picking out the decorations for it even though I didn’t show it to the elderly people. ( I was sick.) But when we were singing I thought the elderly people loved the shark song the most. This experience made me feel that old people are fun to be around.
Sophia,
We made 4 trips in all.
- Mrs. L.
Congratulations, Students! Your comments were sincere and meaningful and I know that your new friends at The Court were touched by your interest. Thank you for your willingness to learn about a very difficult time in our country’s history and for representing Gattis Elementary in such a positive way. I’m proud of you! Mrs. Wallingford
Dear Mrs. Melson,
First of all I just wanted to say thank you so much for being my first grade teacher. I had a lot of fun in your class. You taught me a lot and knew how to make me happy on my saddest days. I also wanted to thank you for the experiment. You know the one where we dunked eggs in a bunch of sodas and coffees and then brushed them with a tooth brush. Anyway, just thank you so much.
Sincerely,
Alex
I am glad you had this experience this year. I hope you learned a lot from the people you met, and the research you completed.
